Nastia Tumash and New York
"My first diploma theme led to a deadlock but New York put everything in its place".

Nastya Tumash is a young russian designer from St. Petersburg, who designed the information boards of NYC by turning them into more attractive and interesting ones.
"New York.. One morning I took another glance at NYC map hanging on my wall (was purchased in NY during my trip in 2008). That time everyone was extremely concentrated on their diploma projects. My first diploma theme led to a deadlock but New York put everything in its place.
First of all I created series of graphics dedicated to Manhattan. For most of people this island is the heart of NYC. I took Manhattan island’s shape as a basis, and then I chose different features characterizing Manhattan (for example, skyscrapers, taxi, museums etc.). I also designed logotypes for each feature. Another step was «visualization» of my ideas.
After brainstorming conversation with my professor we decided to design information boards by turning them into more attractive, interesting and various ones. There is a map with colored districts and remarkable objects. Also there are texts and pictures of Manhattan’s features (for instance, historical facts about taxi etc.).
Later I decided to transform my diploma idea into international project. There are so many famous cities all over the world with their own unique features. The main point is to create art graphics for different cities revealing these features. These graphic could be used in info boards design or maps design, in web design or video installations etc. It would be interesting to realize similar projects in other cities but the first one should become only New York!"
